MaltaPost encourages the public to vote for Malta’s Stamp in the EUROPA ‘Old Toys’ competition

MaltaPost is proud to present the 2015 stamp entry representing Malta in this year's EUROPA stamp competition themed "Old Toys".

In a digital growing world, it is becoming more common for children to grow up playing video games and watching television. This year's EUROPA competition theme brought back many nostalgic memories on the toys which played a role for many Europeans growing up. The classical teddy bear, toy cars or rag dolls are favourites amongst children; some were even handcrafted toys and authentic pieces of art which inspired many children's imagination and creativity. These old toys are often shared with other children and also helped them bond and connect with each other.

For this year's EUROPA stamp competiton, MaltaPost took a nostalgic look at a typical Maltese toy that children played with in the past - the Cart (Karretta) which is featured on the €0.59 stamp. The stamps were designed by local artist Joe Mark Micallef. The contest is an annual online event where creative entries from across Europe compete for the best design. The public can vote for the best EUROPA stamp by visiting http://www.posteurop.org/europa2015 until 31 August 2015. The winning stamps will be announced at the Plenary Assembly to be held on 14 October 2015 in Cyprus. Last year almost 11,000 votes were received for the online EUROPA competition "National music instruments".

EUROPA stamps are amongst the most collected and popular stamps in the world. They are specially issued by European postal administrations/enterprises under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is its central theme. EUROPA stamps represent cooperation amongst postal operators and promote philately. They exist to build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.
