MaltaPost and the Central Bank of Malta will be commemorating the Centenary of the Sette Giugno Riots 1919 by the joint issue of a silver foil stamp replica and a commemorative coin.
In Malta, political agitation, massive unemployment and economic hardship followed in the wake of the First World War. On 7 June 1919 crowds gathered in Valletta to support the National Assembly that had been convened to request self-government for the Maltese Islands.
The coin designed by Noel Galea Bason has a face value of €10. It has a diameter of 38.61mm and represents a standoff between a crowd and a group of armed soldiers. The silver foil stamp replica depicts the €5.95c postage stamp from the ‘100th Anniversary Sette Giugno Events 1919-2019' miniature sheet to be issued on the 6 June.
The silver foil stamp replica and the coin will be available as a set in one presentation case and will also be available separately.
This set will be available in the coming weeks. Pre-Orders can be done by: email info@maltaphilately.com, telephone: 2596 1740, or by mail from the Philatelic Bureau, MaltaPost p.l.c. 305, Qormi Road, Marsa, MTP 1001.
