World Post Day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). With its 192 member countries; the UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players and helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services.
World Post Day is celebrated by postal operators around the World each year on 9 October. The purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people's and businesses' everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries.
In Malta the role of the postal sector is very important, especially with the increase of online shopping and e-commerce. MaltaPost addresses this by continuously investing in enhancing the online shopping experience for its clients by offering more flexible delivery solutions. With its SendOn service, MaltaPost provides an address in the UK allowing for customers to shop from online stores which do not ship directly to Malta.
The company also continues to invest in facilitating access to postal services by opening new Post Offices such as in Sliema and St. Paul's Bay. One can find the nearest Post Office by visiting the website on www.maltapost.com/outlets.
MaltaPost encourages the Maltese public to include the full postal address including Post Codes when utilizing postal services. It specifically dedicates a section of its website to this: http://postcodes.maltapost.com/.
Earlier this year MaltaPost launched the Postage Rate Calculator which allows clients to instantly calculate the cost of sending a letter or a parcel and the respective time frames right from the comfort of their computer. The postage calculator is available at www.maltapost.com/postagecalculator.
MaltaPost would like to take the opportunity to thank its' clients for using the postal services throughout the year.
