"WWF" 50TH ANNIVERSARY
The Philatelic Bureau of MaltaPost p.l.c. will be issuing a philatelic commemorative set of 4 stamps presented in a miniature sheet. The set of stamps titled "WWF"50TH Anniversary will be issued on the 29th of April to commemorate the WWF's 50th Anniversary.
The WWF is one of the largest environmental organizations in the world acting locally through a network of over 90 offices in over 40 countries. On 29 April 2011, the WWF Global Network celebrates WWF's 50th Anniversary. On that date in 1961, the Morges Manifesto was signed calling for an international conservation organisation to mobilise massive resources around the world to fund global conservation priorities.
The miniature sheet depicts a fish found in the Maltese Islands which according to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature)Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM, has "Near Threatened Status" and will probably soon qualify as "Vulnerable" as the population continues to decrease. The fish is the Chimaera monstrosa, commonly known as Rabbit fish or Fenek tal-Baħar in the Maltese Islands.
An amount of 70,000 miniature sheets bearing four stamps, carry a face value of €0.51, €0.63, €0.67 and €0.97. The stamps feature four different images of the Chimaera monstrosa. The miniature sheet which was designed in-house by MaltaPost, measures 130mm x 85mm while the stamps measure 41.0mm x 30.5mm with a perforation of 13.9 x 14.0(comb). All stamps have been offset printed on Maltese Crosses watermarked paper by Printex Limited and are available in miniature sheets.
The miniature sheet "WWF" 50TH Anniversary will be available as from Friday 29th April from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo and from the Mobile Post Office.
